I can't believe this reviews! This is an Excellent Toaster!! March 19, 2005 L. Torres (Oakland) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this toaster to use at work. I had it for over 3 years now and it still toast great. It toast evenly on both sides and the control work great. It gets used almost every day, my cooworkers borrow it constantly. We use it to toast bagels and slice bread. I am even buying a 4-slice one for home and I am sticking with the proctor. I guess I got lucky with the one I got. I do like it a lot better than cuisinart, black and decker and other brands that cost more and don't last as long.
This is the worst toaster ever! November 18, 2003 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
It will either burn my toast, bagel, or muffin or else not toast it enough without even moving the controls up from the lowest setting. WHat is the point of the controls? They do do something but if you increase the setting, you will set off all the smoke alarms. The only good thing was that it was CHEAP. Of course what did I expect, but how hard is it to make a toaster?!
Avoid any toaster with SmartToast feature! July 10, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Why would you ever want to turn control of your toast over to a feature that is so idiotic that it burns one time, undercooks the next? This is what SmartToast does for (to) you. Hamilton Beach (Proctor Silex) blew it on this one. My advice to you is to simply buy a toaster with a traditional timer knob. Otherwise you will have to stand guard over your toaster as it arbitrarily decides what you are eating for breakfast.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GHASTLY JUNK!!! July 28, 2004 M. Philips (Los Angeles, CA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The worst toaster made ever. I trusted the brand name and got a toaster that burns everything on the number 1 or 2 setting. The controls are non-existent and the whole thing is cheap and flimsy. You get what you paid for. Still it's over $10 down the drain since I have to get a decent one now...
Luckily, it broke on its maiden voyage--no good June 28, 2004 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This toaster was not one we bought--we had it in our suite apartment, probably put there because it was the lowest priced one they could find. It was brand new when we got it.Plugged it in, popped in the bread. Blooeeiie!!! The elements burnt right out on one side. They were cheap wires, barely tacked to the insulating board. A horrible design. You get what you pay for, except in this case, where you paid for a toaster and might not even get one slice out of it. Avoid.
